The Great Influencer Divide: Why Not Me, Lord?!

So what's the secret? Is it pure luck, or is it just consistent delusion paired with relentless posting? Because the reality is, a lot of these influencers didn't start out with brand deals and VIP invites-they started with audacity and an iPhone.

There is a special kind of heartbreak that comes from watching influencers live the life you know you deserve. The luxury trips, the free PR packages, the perfect relationships (or at least the ones edited to perfection), and yes-even the kids, because somehow, these babies come out posing like they've been media-trained since the womb.

And there I am watching from my couch, in an oversized T-shirt that may or may not have seen better days, wondering: Why not me, Lord?!

Is It God's Favor or Just Good Lighting?

I mean, let's talk about it. Were these influencers chosen before birth to have a life of front-row Fashion Week seats and brand trips to Bora Bora? Is it written in the stars that they get flown out just to twirl in designer dresses, while I get excited over a well-timed Uber Eats promo code? Did I miss my calling, or am I just lazy?!

Because let's be real. Half the time, these influencers are just rolling out of bed, throwing on some aesthetically pleasing sweats, and filming a "Day in My Life" that somehow racks up a million views. Meanwhile, I blink wrong in a video, and the algorithm sends me to social media purgatory.

Consistency vs. Delusion

So what's the secret? Is it pure luck, or is it just consistent delusion paired with relentless posting? Because the reality is, a lot of these influencers didn't start out with brand deals and VIP invites-they started with audacity and an iPhone.

They kept showing up, posting through the cringe, and convincing us all that their life was something we needed to watch. And now? They're getting paid a month's salary just to sip matcha and add a brand mention for two seconds.

Are We All Influencers in Some Way?

Maybe that's the real question. Even if we don't have millions of followers or companies begging to send us free stuff, aren't we all influencing in some way? The way we show up, the things we say, the way we make people feel-it all leaves an impact.

So sure, I might not have a closet full of PR packages (yet). But I can still influence in my own way-whether it's making someone laugh, sharing a real moment, or just showing up as my unfiltered self.

And who knows? Maybe one day, I'll be the one on a brand trip, sipping overpriced coconut water in the Maldives. Until then, I'll be here, influencing my Uber Eats driver to bring extra sauce
